Long before the gates open, dozens of them are already there - lights ablaze, in the outer harbour or beyond the jetties - waiting to unload their precious cargo. And finally, the gates open. The ballet can begin; a parade like a show; a return to port mixed with pride and relief.
Depending on the tides, at Quai Letourneur (opposite the restaurant L'Equipage), a guide from the municipal cultural centre and fishing specialist welcomes the public to comment on the arrival of the trawlers and share numerous anecdotes about this unique type of fishing, the boats and the crews.
Although the Bayeux Tapestry is no longer on display due to the closure of its museum for renovation work, the history of this medieval masterpiece remains omnipresent in the town. Follow a guide who will recount its surprising story as you stroll through the monuments and streets of Old Bayeux, where each step will reveal more about the conservation of this famous embroidery.
